Life on New Planet

So for the blog today, I just figured I would write about the article on life on another planet. I found the article really interesting. Throughout the entire article I kept on thinking that we were going to be attacked by a group of aliens. But that's just sci-fy. I guess that the one of the main reason's why most people don't believe in Extra Terrestrial beings is because they are Christians and believe that God only made them. Myself, I believe that there could be ETs.... I think as long as there is the right amount of water, air, and food sources, micro-organisms could start to evolve and create beings.

Thesis Statement

I wasn't sure what my thesis statement actually was but as I got towards the end, I noticed this sentence and realized that it was the best summary of my paper. "The police have the right to do whatever is necessary and proper, and when it comes to animals, any unethical treatment that is suspected is subjected to immediate action." I'm not all too good when it comes to writing papers in a form where I have to identify parts and pieces of a paper. Once I start writing, I just keep going and don't worry about anything else. I feel that if I pause at any moment I might lose my train of thought and that could be why my paper's sometime are all over the place and don't make much sense. Otherwise I feel that I am a pretty descent writer.

America Bashers

America Bashers was the excerpt that I decided to read. I thought that it would be cool to see who exactly the Bashers were, and when i found out that they were citizens that were actually citizens of the U.S. i was appalled. If they have a problem with the U.S. then they have all the right to get out of here and go find a better country to live in. We don't need them. I felt that the author kind of went on and on about the different people. I enjoyed his rant on the My Lai Massacre. He was absolutely right when he said that Abu Ghraib prison situation was no where near as terrible as the My Lai Massacre. People are getting worked up over something that didn't really come close. In My Lai, the Americans murdered unarmed civilians, where as all they did at Abu Ghraib was make the Iraqians take their close off and lay on each other. Calm down people. They go and murder our soldiers and tape it so that we can see it and its worse when we just humiliate them a little. Go figure... we're supposed to take the high road right? Cause we're the good ol' U.S... we're in a war. You aren't supposed to be nice during a war. How else would you come out on top?

Peer Editing Review

Throughout my entire elementary and high school career, I had never done a peer review, nor had anyone peer reviewed my paper. I had done many editing of other peoples papers though. I really found this to be more helpful than having someone just fix the gramatical errors. I was given another perspective on the paper and realized that i needed to have more detail throughout it. I liked being able to help out other people on their own papers and learning about a time when a tradegy struck their lives. All in all it would be a good thing for us to continue doing.

Random

So today i'm gonna blog about anything that comes to mind while i'm talking. First thing was the literacy narrative. I really enjoyed writing it. I'm not a big fan of writing but it was pretty cool being able to actually write something that happened to you instead of having to write a paper on something that barely affects you. For mine I wrote about my dad's car accident, and it was really cool being able to think about my past and talk about it. It was cool being able to get it off my chest because I'm not really good at talking to other people about it, whereas writing about it isn't as hard to do. Thats all... Have a good day.

The Dead Poets Society

For my blog today I am going to write about the saying "Carpe Diem." I really like this term because it is one of the best advice that you could receive from anyone. To seize the day is something that you should always do. It will really help you to achieve many more things in you life as long as you follow it thoughout your entire day. I really believe that people don't realize how important it is until they try it for themselves. "CARPE DIEM"

September 9th Reading Assignment

Being a non-fan towards Hillary Clinton, I expected that the story was going to be a buzz kill. As I was reading it though, I found myself getting more and more into it. It was a really interesting short story and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The way that she described her life in such depth really made everything seem much clearer and it didn't seem like she was just saying things that would make her look good in people's eyes. All in all it was a descent read.

So starting out "The Notebook," I was thinking, "Well this is going to be a dull and cheesy story." After reading the first page I started to notice how in depth and how well he described everything. This really made my reading experience much more enjoyable. I could imagine while I was reading the halls that he was walking through and the people he was walking past. I would say that these two short stories were very interesting, and as gay as it sounds, I wouldn't mind reading the rest of "The Notebook."

Sept. 7 Reading Assignment

As I was reading “Learning to Read and Write” by Douglass, I started to feel very intrigued. I found it quite interesting the different ways that he taught himself how to read and write. Being an African American child in that day and age would have been nearly too bad to bear. As I sit here and read about how much he loved to read, it makes me realize that reading and writing really isn’t given the amount of appreciation that it deserves. Without reading and writing, it would be difficult to communicate with others. My favorite part of the excerpt was when he was telling the reader about using the shipyard timbers to teach him how to write letters and then challenging other children by saying he could write better.

Contrary to “Learning to Read and Write,” I found “Me Talk Pretty One Day” by Sedaris not near as interesting. The short story was too slow paced for my liking and I didn’t find any part about it humorous or in any way intriguing. I didn’t understand the type of writing that the writer was trying to accomplish. I felt like the story went absolutely nowhere and the ending was too dull and dry for me to have any positive remarks on it.

As for the last reading article, “When Mr. Pirzada Came to Town,” I found it the best out of the other two. The author really got my attention with the way the beginning was started out. The short story stayed interesting throughout the entire writing. I like the history references that the author used. I really enjoyed this final piece and wouldn’t mind reading another of his short stories.
